It can be disturbing sometimes to see a vacant property and yet there are pets that are left behind to fend for themselves.

It may be that the homeowners are in the process of moving out and they allowed their pets to stay at the property temporarily.  If you are at a vacant property and you see water and food for the pets, then they are probably cared for.  But if you see that it is clear that the pet is hungry and without food or water, it is safe to assume the pet has been abandoned.  Call the local Animal Control services.

Take photos of the abandoned pet and note on your inspection that you called the Animal Control services. We do not have to remain at the property until they arrive.

In my years of field service, I have seen dead pets still chained up, just laying there. I have reported those situations as well.  I hope they put the pet owners in jail.
