1. Past Due Inspections (Held More Than 48 Hours)
If you have past due open inspections that have been in your possession for at least 48 hours, NMFS may reassign those inspections to another contractor.
Fees for Past Due Reassignment
-
$15 Flat Reassignment Fee per inspection
-
Loss of future assigned inspections and job postings in your area for refusing to complete inspections in your assigned county or territory
-
$25–$40 client chargeback passed through to the inspector if the inspection goes past due and must be canceled or reassigned by the client
Our clients closely track deadlines. If past due work results in cancellation or reassignment by the client, NMFS has no choice but to pass the chargeback through to the inspector responsible for the delay.
2. Terminating Services Without a 14-Day Notice (“Flat-Out Quitting”)
Per your Independent Contractor Agreement, if you terminate your services without providing the required 14-day notice, NMFS must immediately reassign your open inspections.
In these situations, a $25 chargeback may be assessed for each past due inspection still in your queue at the time you quit.
3. Inspector-Initiated Reassignments (Non–Past Due)
If an inspector requests reassignment of an inspection that is not past due, NMFS may accommodate the request, but doing so requires time and resources and places a burden on the receiving inspector who now has fewer days to complete the work.
This includes situations where the inspector declines because the inspection is:
-
Too far away
-
In a difficult or unsafe area
-
Inconvenient due to weather or personal schedule
-
Outside their preferred routine
These situations may result in loss of future assignments in that territory if refusal becomes repetitive or impacts coverage reliability.
Responsibility and Communication
NMFS is contractually obligated to complete all assigned inspections on time. When an inspector allows work to go past due—or quits without proper notice—it directly impacts NMFS and can result in substantial penalties from our clients.
Inspectors are expected to:
-
Communicate proactively with their NMFS Account Manager
-
Request extensions before inspections go past due
-
Notify NMFS early if circumstances prevent timely completion
Good communication prevents unnecessary fees and ensures inspectors maintain consistent work opportunities.
Summary
Reassignment fees are not punitive—they are necessary to protect NMFS from client chargebacks and to ensure fairness to all inspectors who complete their work as assigned. Inspectors who manage their schedules, communicate properly, and complete their inspections on time will never be affected by reassignment fees.
